Quintiles Wrightsville Beach Marathon
March 16-17, 2018

With a peak elevation of only 32ft, the New Hanover Regional Medical Center Wrightsville Beach Marathon Madness is fast, flat and notorious for personal bests. Combined with the huge bonus of the race being a Boston Marathon qualifying event and an USATF certified qualifier, it’s no surprise why this marathon attracts a healthy variety of runners—from first timers to veterans—and sells out fast. Polar Plunge and 5K
February 17, 2018
Help support our local athletes by participating in the 5K run, 1 mile walk or by taking a chilling plunge into the Atlantic Ocean. 100% of the money raised goes directly to support Special Olympics New Hanover County. The Polar Plunge takes place February 17, 2018 at the Kure Beach Boardwalk by the pier. How do I Participate? In order to participate in the 14th Annual Polar Plunge, make a pledge to Special Olympics New Hanover County. Make a pledge as an individual or as a team. Teams must have at least 5 members and each member must raise their minimum amount to be eligable to run or plunge. Click here for additional information.

Strut For Kids 
March 3, 2018
Strut for Kids is a Wilmington based 501(c)-3 with the sole mission and vision of raising money for families in New Hanover, Brunswick and Pender Counties, dealing with a diagnosis of pediatric cancer. Our annual fundraiser, Strut for Kids Race (formerly known as The Cardinal Strut) is a 5k, 10k, 1-mile Dash and 1-mile Fun Run held during the first weekend in March. The 2017 Strut for Kids Race allowed us to donate close to $10,000 to pediatric cancer patients in our area. Funds are used to provide gas cards to newly diagnosed patients as they travel outside of the Greater Wilmington area for their initial diagnosis and treatment. Additional funds are granted through an application process for families who are being impacted by pediatric cancer and are in need of financial assistance. Click here for additional information.

Cape Fear Beer & Wine Festival
March 10, 2018
Wilmington, NC will be hosting their eighth annual beer and wine festival at the Wilmington Convention Center on March 10, 2018. This 30,000 square foot venue is a first class, state of the art building located at 515 Nutt Street, Wilmington, NC 28401 in the city’s historic district on the Cape Fear River waterfront. The festival will focus on 50+ American craft micro breweries and wineries with over 125 beers and wines being offered. Cape Fear Wildlife Expo

The Cape Fear Wildlife Expo is a family fun-filled event to be held on March 16-18, 2018. As a family event, the expo will feature wildlife art and decoy displays; book signings by regional outdoor writers; hunting and fishing products; boats and accessories; truck and ATV displays; fly-fishing and decoy-carving demonstrations; conservation exhibits; outdoor sports guides and outfitters. US Open Beach Fat Bike Championships

The US Open Beach Fat Bike Championships is a race like none other in the USA. Being held on an all sand course along the pristine shores of Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina this course will prove both challenging for competitors and fun to watch for families and fans. With the recent and fast rising popularity of Fat Bikes, bikes with tires wider than 4″, riding a bicycle in the thick sand has become easier than ever. Mark your calendar for the 14th Annual Steve Haydu St Patrick's Day Lo Tide Run. Teams of 5 or more runners will be scored by the top 5 racers on their team in the 5K for Top 3 Places. The Area’s Largest and Longest Running Plant & Garden Sale, also featuring classes, activities & exhibits on gardening, nature and related topics. The grounds of Poplar Grove will be filled with a wonderful selection of locally grown plants of all types – herbs, perennials, annuals, hanging baskets, shrubs, native plants, vegetable starts and houseplants, plus garden art & accessories, herbal & all-natural products, artisan crafts & local foods. North Carolina Azalea Festival

A SCENE to be SEEN! Celebrate Spring Southern Style at the North Carolina Azalea Festival. The North Carolina Azalea Festival is Wilmington’s annual community celebration and the largest festival of its kind in the state. Founded in 1948, the Azalea Festival has emerged as Wilmington’s premier event. Each April, a full week of natural beauty, big-name entertainment, festive galas, fun family events and Southern hospitality come together to showcase the charms of the Wilmington area. For community pride and springtime pageantry, the North Carolina Azalea Festival has no equal! The Festival’s concerts, fairs and special events are viewed by more than one million people each year, in person and through media coverage. More than 200,000 are estimated to attend the annual two-day Street Fair, while more than 100,000 gather to watch the Festival Parade. Each event is a celebration, beginning with the traditional arrival of Queen Azalea at the official opening of the five-day event. The Southeast Tourism Society often selects the North Carolina Azalea Festival as one of its Top 20 Events. Join us this April for this spectacular Wilmington event! West Marine Carolina Cup
April 18-22, 2018
The 2018 West Marine Carolina Cup presented by SurfTech kicks off the race season with 5 courses: a kids race, the Harbor Island Recreational “fun” race, Money Island open race, 6 man outrigger race on Sunday and the renowned Graveyard Elite Race. This is our seventh year. In 2012, the Carolina Cup was the largest race on the East Coast with over 400 paddlers competing in the first day of races. In 2013, we had over 600. In 2014, there were over 700. The 2015 event was one of the most competitive events on record and also deemed the largest SUP event in the world. In 2016, the West Marine Carolina Cup grew even more, attracting thousands of paddlers to Wrightsville Beach to come together on the East Coast. The Wilmington Jewish Film Festival

The Wilmington Jewish Film Festival, in association with the Wilmington United Jewish Appeal and with the support of other community groups, is a nonprofit 501(c) (3) organization whose mission is, through the screening of excellent films with Jewish content, to promote a deeper understanding of Jewish history and contemporary Jewish culture. Battleship 101 - USS North Carolina

Friendly, knowledgeable volunteers stationed throughout the ship engage visitors in specific subjects and areas including: gunnery, radar, sick bay, galley, engineering, and daily shipboard life. Try on helmets, raise signal flags, “text” using semaphore flags, tap out your name using Morse code, type on vintage typewriters and more!
