Summer Fireworks by the Sea and Boardwalk Gazebo Music
Every Thursday, Beginning Memorial Day Weekend - September
Pleasure Island Summers 'officially' begin when the weekly fireworks kick off on Memorial Day Weekend. Then every Thursday, the beach strand on Pleasure Island lights up with weekly firewoks! The best place to view this weekly spectaular show is on the beach strand located in front of the Courtyard by Marriott or on the historic Carolina Beach Boardwalk, where there is music at the Gazebo stage for your enjoyment. So 'pack up' the family and head to the Boardwalk in Carolina Beach. The music starts at 6:30PM followed by the fireworks at 9PM.  Follow Facebook for weather delays, changes and updates.

The Wilmington Boat Show
September 9 - 11, 2016
The Port City is renowned as North Carolina’s most accessible coastal destination, nestled between the Cape Fear River and the Atlantic Ocean. This coastal gem will now be home to the annual Wilmington Boat Show produced by JBM & Associates, producers of the Charleston and Savannah Boat Shows. This destination show will take place in several different venues including the Port City Marina, Pier 33, Wilmington Convention Center and across the Cape Fear River at Battleship NC Park. Wilmington Water Tours will taxi attendees back and forth for a true boat show experience. Click here for additional information.

Pier-2-Pier Swim Race
September 10, 2016
The Pier-2-Pier Swim Race is an annual open water ocean swim race at beautiful Wrightsville Beach, NC and is hosted by the Cape Fear Aquatics Club and the Wilmington Family YMCA. It is the 11th year for this event. The race course is ~ 2 miles between the Johnny Mercer and Crystal Piers (1.71 miles along the beach, plus the swim to and from the "dry" finish and start lines). Competition is open to all swimmers 11yrs old and up. Click here for additional information.

YMCA Sprint 2016
September 17, 2016 at 7AM
This race starts out with a 1,350 yard swim - which is unusual for a sprint distance triathlon. The reason the swim is longer than the normal sprint distance swim is because the swim is a point-to-point swim that always takes place with an incoming tide. The bike course is flat (not a surprise) as the race is at the coast. The one loop course takes participants over the Wrightsville Beach drawbridge and onto the mainland. The 5K run course is a one-loop design and also flat. The run takes place on the very popular "loop" at Wrightsville Beach with 90% of the run being on the sidewalk system - the other 10% is on a very quiet side street. Carolina Beach Dragon Boat Regatta & Festival
September 17, 2016
This is the 4th annual event in Sunny Carolina Beach right on the Atlantic Ocean! Please join the Island Men this September for this two day event of activities, scheduled for September 16th and 17th. Racing will be on a 300m race course along the shores of the Carolina Beach Yacht Basin, a protected area of water lined with beach homes, condos, and marinas. Community teams will be racing along with a few club teams from around the region. A dragon boat is a colorful 45-foot long watercraft that resembles a canoe. This event brings together sports, health and wellness, and arts to celebrate our island community. Proceeds from this event will go directly to benefit Step Up for Soldiers and their programs providing volunteer services for renovations, recreation and recognition for recently disabled Veterans. Gather a group of friends, neighbors, customers, family or co-workers to form a team and get out on the water. Click here for additional information.

2016 Wilmington Riverfest
October 8 - 9, 2016
Wilmington’s Riverfest, celebrated on the first full weekend of October, runs through Historic Downtown Wilmington on Water Street from the foot of Market Street to Cape Fear Community College. Currently drawing nearly a quarter-million people, this free, family-oriented celebration is a two-day event and has grown to be a widely anticipated annual celebration. Riverfest boasts craft vendors, concessions booths, a children’s play area, entertainment on various stages, Saturday night fireworks, and more. This year, we will also be crowning our second Annual Miss Riverfest. One well-deserving young lady will be crowned and perform hostess duties throughout the festival. PPD IRONMAN North Carolina
October 22, 2016
The PPD IRONMAN North Carolina features a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike, and a 26.2-mile run through coastal and southeastern North Carolina. It is a unique "point-to-point-to-point-to-point" event, with each leg finishing in a different location. The swim starts at the southern tip of beautiful Wrightsville Beach and takes place in a channel connected to the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway. The bike course then takes competitors from Wrightsville Beach through the outskirts of Wilmington and three surrounding counties before returning to Historic Downtown Wilmington to the second transition area. The two-loop run is an out-and-back, flat and fast run course starting in historic Wilmington and leads athletes around picturesque Greenfield Lake. The race finishes in downtown Wilmington on the Cape Fear River just across from the historic USS North Carolina Battleship. Click here for additional information.
