Rhiannon Giddens at Brooklyn Arts Center
September 28, 2015
It was toward the end of the T Bone Burnett–curated September 2013 Another Day, Another Time concert at New York City’s Town Hall—a celebration of the early ’60s folk revival that had inspired the Joel and Ethan Coen film Inside Llewyn Davis—when singer Rhiannon Giddens indisputably stole the show. Performing Odetta’s “Water Boy” with, as the New York Times put it, “the fervor of a spiritual, the yips of a folk holler, and the sultry insinuation of the blues,” Giddens brought the star-studded audience to its feet. She was the talk of the lobby during intermission as those attendees unfamiliar with her Grammy Award–winning work as a member of African-American folk interpreters Carolina Chocolate Drops wondered who exactly Rhiannon Giddens was, with her elegant bearing, prodigious voice, and fierce spirit. Topsail Island Fall Surf Fishing Challenge
October 2 - 4, 2015
Welcome to the Topsail Island Fall Surf Fishing Challenge, a brand-new event that Fisherman’s Post is proud to be bringing to the island’s beachfront this October. The Topsail Island Fall Surf Fishing Challenge is modeled after our extremely popular Pleasure Island Surf Fishing Challenge fall event (attracting 500 anglers last year), as it features round-the-clock fishing from midnight on Friday, October 3, to noon on Sunday, October 5. The challenge is for entrants to weigh the heaviest speckled trout, flounder, bluefish, pompano, sea mullet, and/or black drum over the 36 hours of fishing. Click here for additional information.

Pleasure Island Fall Surf Fishing Challenge
October 16 - 18, 2015
Fisherman’s Post is excited to return to the shores of Carolina, Kure, and Fort Fisher to shine the spotlight on the island’s superb fall surf fishing with the Eighth Annual Pleasure Island Fall Surf Fishing Challenge. Attracting nearly 500 anglers last year, the event is the largest surf fishing contest outside NC’s Outer Banks, and the catches, stories, and camaraderie we’ve seen, heard, and felt in the past seven years have us motivated to return and make this the best year yet. The basic format of the event remains the same—a 36-hour fishing marathon lasting from midnight on Friday, October 16, to noon on Sunday, October 18. Click here for additional information.

The New Mastersounds at BAC
November 3, 2015
In the late 1990’s, guitarist and producer Eddie Roberts was running a club night in Leeds called “The Cooker.” When The Cooker moved into a new venue with a second floor in 1999, there was space and the opportunity to put a live band together to complement the DJ sets. Simon Allen and Eddie had played together in 1997 as The Mastersounds, though with a different bassist and no organ. Through friends and the intimate nature of the Leeds music scene, Pete Shand and Bob Birch were added on bass and Hammond respectively, and The New Mastersounds were born. Though it was raw, and more of a boogaloo sound at first, it was powerful from the start. Their first rehearsal was hot enough for Blow it Hard Records to release on two limited-edition 7” singles in 2000. Click here to purchase your show tickets.

The Wood Brothers at Brooklyn Arts Center
November 15, 2015
The cover of The Wood Brothers' gorgeous new album, 'Paradise,' is adorned with an illustration of a mule staring at a carrot dangling just inches in front of its mouth. The carrot, though, is hanging from a stick affixed to the mule's own head. "In some ways, he's already got it," explains guitarist Oliver Wood. "And in some ways, he'll never have it." That paradox is at the core of 'Paradise,' an album about longing and desire and the ways in which the pursuit of fulfillment can keep it perpetually out of our reach. It's a beautiful collection, the band's most sophisticated work to date and also their most rocking, with bassist Chris Wood playing electric on tracks for the first time.
